21岁的原高中棒球队队员田浏公平（冈田准一饰）每天都在经营理发店的父亲那儿帮忙。某日，在健康诊断书中突然被医生宣告他的寿命其实仅剩半年，万念俱灰的他于是想趁死前使坏一番。他找到了过去的棒球队队员，一拍即合的他们马上组成了怪盗集团“CatsEye”（猫眼）。不料,一行人在随后的行盗日子里不但没捞到半毛钱,反而糊里糊涂的成了侠盗,无意间帮助了许多人。戲中岡田所飾演的田淵公平被宣告只剩下半年的生命，而與一起打棒球的同伴組成了怪盜集團「木更津貓眼」，在千葉縣的木更津大活躍。雖然連續劇的最後已經安排公平將於一年後死亡，而電影則是要深刻描述他死去之前的最後一個夏天。其他演出者有櫻井翔、酒井若菜、塚本高史、佐藤隆太、岡田義德等年輕人氣演員，而整部戲的獨特拍攝手法以及以年輕人為中心的劇情，讓此劇一播出就大受歡迎，即使現在在日本的重播仍是相當有人氣，DVD的銷售量也堂堂突破8萬多張了。因此在TBS的公式網站上就開始有人反應希望推出續集，並掀起連署活動。
