本片是粉碎“四人帮”后由北京电影制片厂、中央新闻纪录电影制片厂于1977联合摄制的一部大型文艺纪录片。片中的每一幅画面在现在看来十分的珍贵，对于四十岁以上的人们来说是一份难得的怀旧珍品。片中有许多老一辈（有些是已故的）文艺工作者年轻时的珍贵影像：孙道临通片激昂的朗诵词、常香玉的豫剧名歌“水调歌头：粉碎四人帮”、李谷一的“华主席播下春光暖人心”、卞小贞的“太阳最红，毛主席最亲”、郭兰英的“绣金匾”、李光曦的“周总理，你在哪里”、王玉珍和陈俊华的“红湖水浪打浪”等等，最后是王昆演唱的“江山万代飘红旗”。这部见证历史的歌舞片春天，由潘文展、谢添、朱今明、陈光忠导演。
